The University of Southern Mississippi's Museum of Art

Only a few have even heard of it. "We have a museum?" is often the first question heard when it's brought up in discussions. Yes, Southern Miss, we do in fact play host to a pretty spectacular and under-appreciate Museum of Art. It wasn't until last semester that I paid my first "serious" trip to the museum. Of course, I had been in before, lured in by the attractive sound of an "art museum." It wasn't until last semester that I visited with my art appreciation class that I began to actually APPRECIATE what the museum had to offer. I was surprised to discover Mississippi is home to many extraordinary artists, including Walter Anderson, the famous watercolor painter. I even got to see an original print by Rembrandt... REMBRANDT!

So before you try to blow it off as another failed attempt by some measly art department: go check it out. It's a nice kind of quiet place, and it's waiting for you to come visit. :)
